Gifts That Give Back
DIY gifts during the holidays is a creative way to save a few pennies. Understandably, many of us do not have the time to do the arts and crafts we would like to do. That’s why I recommended giving back to others during the holidays instead. However, if you would like to get loved ones something during the holidays, online shopping is an easy and fast way to do so.
The following sites are different and offer unique gifts while others let you have both worlds by giving you an item that also helps a charity.
As an independently-owned business, we have the freedom to support causes we believe in and to impact the world in a positive way. Giving back is important to us and we want to share that passion with you, our customers. Through our Better to Give program, we’ve been able to build a better business by connecting our customers with charities around the globe. With every purchase you make, we’re proud to donate $1 to the non-profit of your choice.
Since we started the Better to Give program 12 years ago, we’ve donated over $700,000. Thanks for helping us pay it forward and do our part to improve the planet and support the people who live on it. Let’s keep up the good work!
World of Good
More than 16,000 eco- and socially conscious goods are available (some from as low as $2) on World Of Good. Shop by gift category, or, if you’d like, “purchase impact,” be it eco- , animal-, or people-friendly. Each product is vetted and comes with a short description so you can see exactly where your money is going. Fair-trade lip balms, organic soaps and craft supplies are all under $15 and make excellent stocking stuffers.
Build a Nest & Global Goods Partners
At online boutique Nest, BuildaNest.com, the $60 you spend on floral Guatemalan tote will go toward…creating more Guatemalan totes! The site sells original apparel, jewelry, home and paper goods made by more than 100 exclusive artists and designers and gives microcredit loans to women in developing countries, enabling them to start and maintain a business selling their own products—which are then offered on the site itself.
Another likeminded organization, GlobalGoodsPartners.org, sells handwoven bracelets made by native tribes in Argentina and handcrafted beaded bangles made women in Tanzania (above). Global Goods Partners is dedicated to alleviating poverty and promoting social justice and funds women-led market initiatives in local communities in 24 countries.
Charm City Babies
Charm City Babies works with a variety of charities, NICUs, hospitals and youth organizations that are in need of clothing for their newborns. At the end of every month, Charm City Babies takes the total number of shirts sold from our online store and delivers them to a certain center we have partnered with. They’re always looking for more partners, so please let us know if you work with a hospital or children’s center.
There are now 830 stores in 51 countries.
