Each time I saw a preview for this film, it made me laugh.  I love Jason Segel and I can sometimes enjoy Cameron Diaz as an actress.  While the story line did not seem to have much substance- sometimes you just need one of those types of movies.

While I do not wish to spoil anything for movie go-ers, it doesn’t even feel like what I am about to say will actually spoil the movie.  If you want to see this movie, just watch the preview.  The majority of the funny scenes were given away in the previews and the parts that were not included in the trailers were just.. predictable (not that I expected otherwise). I honestly think Rob Corddry was my favorite part. I really enjoyed his character and his performance; I always do.

Diaz and Segel were funny yet also a bit disappointing.  It surprised me to see how awful Jason looked.  Yes, he lost weight and if it was done in a healthy manner- good for him.  However he honestly looked a bit sickly to me.  I couldn’t believe it.  I miss the I Love You, Man Jason.  However in an article (found here)  Segel states that he was embarrassed to be naked in so many scenes and lost weight so he would be believable that he was married to the “sex pot” Diaz.  Which while it is understandable, it also says a whole sad lot about our society.  I agree completely Diaz is very attractive but it’s still sad he felt he had to change so drastically.

“I didn’t want the audience to look at a poster of the movie and think, ‘I think they’re not having sex because he’s a fat ass!'”- Jason Segel

Overall, the movie deserves the 4.9/10 rating it has on IMDb in my opinion.  I wish I had enjoyed it more but while I did laugh a few times, it just felt like I could have watched the preview 100 times. It would have been the same thing.  Perhaps I should mention that during the film, the theatre was full of people who did laugh out loud to the point where I heard them 12 rows away.  Maybe I am being a bit too harsh but it may also be just a generation gap.. I really don’t know.  On the other hand, the couple I sat next to, as they were leaving said “I knew it was going to be sh*t…”  so there you have it folks.
