10 Ways to Add Warmth to Your Home

Posted on December 21, 2022December 21, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

Warmth- it’s one of the first things we look for in a home, and it’s one of the most important factors in making a house feel like a home. There are many ways to add warmth to your home, and we’re going to explore ten of them here! From adding color to your walls to using rugs and textiles, we’ll show you how easy it is to make your home more inviting and comfortable. The following are ten ways you can add some extra warmth to your living space!

Add Color to Your Walls

One of the best ways to make your home warm and inviting is by adding a pop of color to your walls. Whether you opt for a bright accent wall, or simply choose to paint every wall in one color, there’s no denying that it will instantly add warmth and personality to any room.

Hang Artwork

Another great way to add some warmth to your home is by hanging artwork throughout. Not only will it give each room some character and life, but it can also help create an atmosphere of comfort and coziness. Another pro to hanging up some pieces is that artwork is a great conversation starter!

Use Natural Materials

Incorporating natural materials into your décor is another easy way to bring some extra warmth into your home. Try adding wood furniture, wicker baskets, and other natural materials to instantly add a more inviting feeling to any room.

Invest in Rugs and Textiles

Rugs and textiles are great for making your home feel nice and snug. Not only do they look great, but they also help absorb sound, reduce echoes, and make your space seem cozier overall. So be sure to invest in some quality rugs or fabrics for your living space!

Introduce Natural Light

Adding natural light via windows or skylights is an excellent way to bring extra warmth into your home. Whether you choose to install curtains or shades that allow soft filtered light during the day or keep them open all hours of the day, you’ll be sure to enjoy the cozy atmosphere it creates.

Add Soft Lighting

Soft lighting is one of the best ways to instantly add a warm and inviting feel to any room. From table lamps and wall sconces to string lights and even candles, there are plenty of options. If using candles, make sure to use them safely! While the candle glow is comforting, the last thing anyone wants is to cause a dangerous fire hazard. Keep the flame away from any hanging draperies, and out of reach from any household pets.

Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are a great way to add warmth to a room. Not only do they look beautiful and timeless, but they can also help make the space feel even more homier. And the best part is, they’re also incredibly durable and easy to maintain! Simply add felt furniture padding to each foot or place the furniture on top of the aforementioned rugs to prevent scratches on the flooring.

Hang Curtains

Curtains can go a long way in adding warmth to a room. Choose printed or patterned fabrics for an added touch of style, and hang them close to the ceiling for maximum effect! There are so many different patterns and materials used for curtains, regardless of a room’s theme there will be a helpful option. While they range in price, there are viable options for every home, no matter the budget.

If decorating a child’s room is part of the process, get them involved by letting them choose certain items such as their curtains. If there is a theme to a room, continue the theme with the curtains. Or, if they wish to have patterns on their walls but the room must stay a solid shade, use their curtains as a compromise.

For example, the home I live in is a rental and we are unable to make lasting changes such as painting the walls. I still wanted my Son to love his room and feel at home in a space that was only his. So, since the moon and space are special to us, I created a space theme. He already had a moon lamp, but I put up space drapes (planets and stars) and I will be getting similar sheets for his bed. These are all renter-friendly items and they can move with us in case of any future relocations. (If you’d like to follow my adventures tackling the rooms in our apartment, you can find me on Instagram and Facebook).

Use Pillows and Blankets

As mentioned above, pillows and blankets are a great way to add some warmth, comfort, and texture to any room. Not only do they look great, but they can also help make it much more comfortable. So be sure to grab some cozy throw pillows and blankets for your living space!

As someone who loves being organized, but who also values being cozy, I would also want to make sure that I had proper storage for my cozy items. From multi-use chests to storage containers made for under beds, there are several different options at your disposal.

Add Greenery

Adding greenery is another excellent way to instantly add life to any room. Plants not only liven up the atmosphere, but they also help improve air quality. So be sure to get yourself a few houseplants that you can enjoy throughout the year! Even in a “colder” room, plants instantly bring life and warmth.

These are just a few of the many ways that you can add extra warmth to your home. So take the time to explore your options, and you’ll be sure to find something that will help make your home more inviting and cozy.
