6 Ways to Enhance Your Driveway

Posted on May 23, 2022June 2, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

The driveway is often one of the more neglected parts of properties. Many of us spend time and money making the interior of our homes pretty. We also give priority to having gardens full of flowers. In many cases, home owners leave their driveway as it was from when they first moved in.

This is because, on many properties, the driveway takes up a lot of space. Even if the driveway is relatively small, it will still have a significant impact on the overall curb appeal of your home. This means, it really does deserve more TLC than it typically gets.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the most effective ways you can enhance your driveway!

1. Install a Pond

Many people think that beyond laying paving stones, or covering the area with Strata Asphalt, there is not much that can be done to enhance the driveway. This is simply not true. Something a little leftfield, which can look amazing, is to install a small pond at the top of the driveway near the house. It will give an ornamental feature to the driveway that is sure to catch the eye.

2. Try a Unique Paving Pattern

A simple way to make your driveway more eye-catching is to mix it up with the paving. Instead of simply installing neat rows of rectangular bricks, use hexagonal paving slabs to create a unique geometrical look. Or, cut paving stones into odd and irregular shapes to make a complete one-of-a-kind design. You’d be surprised by how much you can do with simple stones.

3. Brighten Up The Borders of the Driveway

Something else that can work really well, is framing your driveway with a bold and bright border of herbs and flowers. Plant a variety of flowers like lavender, marigolds and anything else that can grow wild and free. Or, keep it simple with one specific flower, like tulips. They should be placed along the edges of your driveway. Not only will it add color and movement; it will also make your driveway paving seem much less dull. Your curb appeal will go through the roof!

4. Light Up the Driveway

Line the edge of the driveway with hurricane lamps. Or, use solar-powered lanterns to line the drive and show you safe passage in the dark. No matter how you add light to your driveway, it will certainly make it look more attractive, particularly in the evenings. Of course, it will make your driveway much safer for you at night too. Attractive and useful- it’s a win/win!

5. Install a Grand Gate

Why not make a statement by installing a grand oversized gate? Perhaps, with sculpted gateposts and a wrought iron main gate for the entrance of your driveway. It simply cannot fail to impress.

6. Plant the Paving

Planting small succulents or herbs like thyme in the actual cracks between the paving stones on your driveway is probably the most unique way to enhance your drive. We know what your initial reaction may be. That it may look messy, or simply overrun with weeds. Why plant anything here when most people pay to have plants removed? While this option may not be for everyone, it has been gaining in popularity.

Renovating your driveway can be quite expensive! If you simply can’t afford to do an entire driveway repair at this time, planting here is a good option until you can! Instead of having a more industrial design, this will help it turn into a pretty little garden space in its own right. Your driveway will definitely be one of a kind as a result.

It’s time to let your driveway shine!
