Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe

Posted on November 14, 2017April 21, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

After searching the internet for a healthier version of a chocolate chip banana bread recipe (there’s always so much sugar used), I decided that for the first time making it, I would give myself a break.  I will eventually play around with this recipe and use apple sauce rather than a cup of sugar.  However, I thought I would at least review how this recipe turned out.

Originally posted on allrecipes.com by user iggytakahashi, it used all of the ingredients I already had in my pantry.  It took about 20 minutes to prepare (my one-year-old also helped), and it took 70 minutes to bake.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Ingredients

In the first bowl:

3 large, very ripe bananas, mashed

1 Tbsp Milk

1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon

In the second bowl:

1 Tsp Baking Soda

2 Cups Flour

1 Tsp Baking Powder

1 Tsp Salt

In the third bowl:

1/2 Cup Butter

1 Cup Sugar

2 Eggs

Extras:

1 cup Chocolate Chips (Or nuts of your choice)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and grease your baking pan.  They advise using a glass pan, but I used my Masterclass “Let’s Bake”Loaf Pan and while you should keep an eye on it for the cooking time, it turned out really well.

Stir all of the ingredients of bowl #1 together. Then, sift (or whisk) the ingredients of bowl #2 together.  In your third bowl, beat (I don’t have a beater so I simply stirred vigorously) the butter and sugar together until very well combined.  Then, add one egg at a time, stirring well as you go.

I then used my Kitchenaid Mixer to first mix bowls #1 and #3 together.  I then slowly added the dry ingredients to bowl #2.  The original recipe says you can just stir it all together.  To save arm power, I used my mixer and the end result was a very creamy batter.

Fold in your cup of chocolate chips and pour the batter into the greased pan.  I added extra chocolate chips on top (so much for a healthier recipe).

Bake in the oven for 70 minutes, or until it passes the “toothpick test”.  Your home will smell of cinnamon in no time.

Allow it to cool for at least ten minutes before removing it from the pan.

Serve with butter, a warm beverage, and enjoy!

If you wish to consume it at another time, here are three easy ways you can reheat the bread.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

This Banana Bread tastes delicious and I would definitely make this recipe again.  It is moist, and the cinnamon adds an amazing flavor.  While it is too bad there is so much sugar, it is possible to use honey, maple syrup, or apple sauce instead.

I loved the fact that my one-year-old could help me bake it!  He absolutely loves bananas so he ate one as he mashed the other bananas for me.  I think it is so important to get children interested in cooking and baking.  It was the perfect activity to keep him occupied while I did the other steps.  He is definitely a fan of this bread too.
