Dollar Cinema: Cheapest Movies in MTL

Posted on September 24, 2015June 12, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

Going out to see a movie can be expensive!  The general price of admission is usually around $12.99 per person.  Add the price of Popcorn, and drinks- it’s not a shocker if you end up spending over $40 just to go on a “movie date” with one other person.  While I love Scene Points and movie certificates, it shouldn’t be the only way you are able to afford a fun movie night.

At Dollar Cinema, they take the high prices out of the equation. With the price of admission being a mere $2.50 and snacks being priced at $1- you can’t complain.  For the two of us, it cost $14.50; how amazing is that?

While at first glance it seems to have an “old school vibe”, the owner, Bernie Gurberg, (who has been in the papers for allowing the theatre to be the only one in Quebec to premiere “The Interview”, read more here) greets you and is extremely polite and welcoming.  You can tell that he keeps the theatre running because he really cares about providing entertainment for the experience. It’s not just a way for him to make money.

Bernie’s philosophy has always been that movie-going doesn’t need to be an expensive outing and he did something about it. Dollar Cinema opened the spring of 2004 and has offered uninterrupted service to thousands of visitors.

If it is your first time being at the theatre…

like it was for me, he lets you choose a free candy as a thank you for coming.  They also have many other great deals and offers, such as GET TWENTY ( 20 ) MOVIE PASSES FOR ONLY $23.00: Use one at a time or use as many tickets as you want at the same time.  There’s no expiry date, they make a great gift, and it is available both online and in-store.  What a great deal!  $23 to see 20 movies- that’s just too great to pass up.

The movies that they show may not always be the ones still in theatres, but they are still recent.  Especially, if you don’t get to go to the movies very often.  The movies will probably seem like new releases anyway!

We arrived about 30 minutes before our movie started so he let us walk in to see the end of another film.

I didn’t know what to expect when entering the actual theatre.

I thought it might be a small space, but I was pleasantly surprised.  The theatre is HUGE.  The screen may not seem as big as in other places, but it is still amazing.  The theatre is also fully air-conditioned.  The seats are comfortable, too.  We watched the 2-hour 21-minute long Avengers: Age of Ultron and the last 30 minutes of Spy without becoming uncomfortable.

Overall, I won’t be seeing any movies at any theatre other than Dollar Cinema unless I have a free pass. Dollar Cinema now has a new fan and I will be returning very soon.

If you would like to see which films they are playing, visit their official website here.  Also, be sure to follow them on Facebook and on Twitter.  They are always updating new offers to get you even better deals and you will stay updated on the special events they have.

They are located at 6900 Décarie Square Across from the Namur Metro.  Or via bus lines 17, 160, 161, and 166.  Call (514) 739-0536 for more information.

Thank you for everything Bernie!

Have you been to Dollar Cinema yet?
