How To Create A Cottagecore Kitchen

Posted on January 5, 2022May 4, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

What is Cottagecore?

“Cottagecore” refers to a design style that’s characterized by the countryside (pretty straightforward, right?). According to GoodHousekeeping, the idea is to create, ‘an idealized representation of farm life’. While the cottagecore design trend focuses on natural elements and sustainability, it is also a celebration of crafts and self-sufficiency. The aesthetic includes plenty of pastel colors, floral prints, and homemade items. If you’re keen to design a cottagecore kitchen, read on for a few tips.

1 . Second-hand furniture

If you’d like to create a cottage core kitchen you should buy second-hand vintage furniture. Invest in a wooden table and chairs, and an armchair in a kitschy pattern. If you’re the creative type you might consider panting or distressing your table, to add to the rustic look. To bring color and vibrancy into the room, why not paint your table in a pastel shade?

2. Floral tiles

Are you looking to make a statement with your kitchen tiles? Floral kitchen tiles are the way to go! You can purchase floral tiles in many different styles, and it’s lots of fun to shop around. You might go for floor tiles, backsplash tiles, or maybe even both!

When you’re choosing your tiles, think about the color schemes that you’re going to use. If your colors and patterns aren’t an exact match, that’s fine. Cottagecore is all about layering different colors!

3. Dried plants & flowers

To get the cottagecore look, make sure to add plenty of dried plants and flowers. Elements of the natural world are the best way to get the rustic country feel. You can also add some live indoor plants if you prefer. There are so many benefits of bringing plants into the home including:

  • An amazing way to boost endorphin levels.
  • Plants can help to create a healthier home.
  • Cheap & easy decor for the kitchen.

4. Home-made items

If you want to create a cottagecore-style kitchen, you’ll need plenty of homemade items. Think crocheted plant hangings, knitted tablecloths, or embroidered cushion covers. You don’t have to be super creative to make homemade items for there are plenty of online tutorials where you can learn. Making your own items has so many advantages like:

  • Saving money on your decor.
  • Expressing your personality with your design work.
  • Choosing your own eco-friendly fabrics.

5. Pastel Cabinets

Pastel colors are going to be all the rage in 2022! Whether you choose from shades of pinks, lilacs, greens, or yellows, it’s a way of adding your own delicate flair to the room. You can either purchase new cabinets or paint your existing ones. Painting your own cabinets can be a fun project and will save you money, but it can take a little time. Just make sure they are in good condition and, if possible, choose eco-friendly paints. When you’re upgrading your kitchen you should try to be as green as you can.

6. Farm-house sink

A farm-house sink is a great way to give your kitchen that country look, with a modern twist. These sinks are beautiful, plus it’s much easier to do the washing up! A farm-house sink can be expensive, but remember, upgrades are a great way to add value to your home.

When you add value to your property, you’ll increase your ROI if you sell in the future. If you are selling your home, you’ll want to work with a great real estate agent, to learn more check out Compass Real Estate.
