Maritime Madness Hot Sauce

Posted on May 27, 2022June 12, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

Growing up, the one hot sauce I remember being a staple condiment in our house, was Tabasco sauce. For many, the instant you hear the word “Tabasco”, a bottle with a red cap, and a white, red, and green label comes to mind. Years later, while I will always have a soft spot for Tabasco sauce, I’ve been wanting to find a hot sauce to be a staple item in my kitchen. Each time I would watch Hot Ones, I would be reminded that I have yet to find a hot sauce that I liked enough to purchase more than once. Thanks to a Canadian company called Maritime Madness, my search is over.

If you’re in, or near, the PEI region, they have two outlet stores you can visit. One is in Montague, 570 Main St. and another outlet in Charlottetown, Founder Food Hall at 6 Prince St which is open 7 days a week. Otherwise, you can easily order online to try their sauces yourself!

As stated on their Official Maritime Madness Website:

We’re food lovers first.  And like many foodies, we’re always looking for perfect pairings – one sauce does not fit all.  That’s why we take pride in producing a large variety of the finest sauces you can find, and continue to innovate year after year, @ 35 sauces and counting.

Whatever you’re eating, we’ve got a sauce for that!

We strive to have something great for you no matter what heat level, flavour profile, or lifestyle diet/protocol you follow, at a great value and always with health, flavour, and local sourcing in mind.  We love to hear your suggestions, and often act on them, resulting in some amazing flavour profiles!  Give us a try, we’ve got a sauce you’ll love.

I recently tried a few of their sauces and now I’m trying to find any and every excuse to add them to my meals. Eating a sandwich? Time to add some Red Clay Medium Hot Sauce! Cooking a batch of Thai Pork and Noodle Soup? Well, I just HAVE to add some Tropical Habanero. The list goes on.

Basically, if you’re craving hot sauce at any time, for any dish- they have the perfect sauce to accompany it. They also have Gluten-Free Sauces, Vegan Rubs, Dry Rubs and much more! For now, here are the sauces I’ve tried so far. Warning- you’ll wish you had them on hand to try as soon as you read this, so get ready.

Fire Candy

Heat Level 6

Soy Free, Dairy Free, Low Sodium, and Gluten Free

“Candied jalapeno peppers are amazing and we’ve captured the taste in a convenient Maritime Madness squeeze bottle. This flavour in our Fire Candy line goes great on grilled cheese, ice cream, smoked meat…the list is endless. One of our more popular hot sauces, you won’t go wrong by adding this to your hot sauce collection. Give it a try and you’ll agree it’s one of the best hot sauces you’ve ever had.”

Joanna’s Thoughts

While I’m not sure that I would try this on ice cream, the taste of the Candied Jalapeno Peppers is amazing. I think I would use some of this on a delicious Montreal smoked meat sandwich on rye. I know, I know. “How could she eat Montreal smoked meat with anything other than mustard?!” Well, that just goes to show how tasty this Candied Jalapeno sauce is.

NFLD Screech

Heat Level 5

Soy Free, Dairy Free, Low Sodium Gluten Free

“A delicious hot sauce with a smokey and slightly sweet taste that makes you think BBQ, smoked meats, casseroles, potato dishes and much more.

A nice hickory smoke tang with a bottle of Newfoundland Screech cooked into every batch! This sauce is “top shelf best kind”. Fire up the BBQ B’ys. You have to give this sauce a try! Formerly called Blazin’ Newfie.”

Joanna’s Thoughts

Delicious! I think this one is my personal favorite. It reminds me of Baton Rouge and Bullseye Sauce mixed together. It’s the perfect balance of heat and sweetness. I honestly cannot wait to cook with this one!

Red Clay Medium Red

Heat Level: 5

Vegan, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, no added sugar, Low Sodium, garlic & onion free.

“An amazing elixir of spicy goodness… a tasty medium/hot pepper sauce that turns everything you eat into an explosion of flavor!“

Joanna’s Thoughts

This sauce is really tasty. I find it to be just a bit spicier than Screech. It definitely has a kick to it that slowly builds. I’m so accustomed to sauce being either quite mild, or quite spicy. This one is somehow both. It’s a delicious mild sauce, and the longer you taste it, the spicier it gets. At least, that’s my experience with it. Either way, it’s definitely not a bad thing. I highly enjoy it!

Scotch Bonet- Limited Edition

Heat Level: 8

Vegan, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, no added sugar, Keto Friendly.

“Scotch Bonnet is one of our favourite peppers – it’s spicy (but not aggressive), and has a sweet, almost fruity taste underpinning the heat. It’s got enough flavour to stand all on its own, so we didn’t dress it up too much. It’s enhanced with fresh mango and carrot. That’s it!

We made this beautiful yellow hot sauce with a pepper purée this time, which means it’s a smoother, less chunky sauce.“

Joanna’s Thoughts

The Scotch Bonnet has a heat level of 8 (which makes this one the hottest one I’ve tried so far). I must say, they aren’t joking when they say that it is SPICY! On their site, they say it isn’t “aggressively spicy”. I agree with this. However, I would also warn that it is definitely on the right path!

It is also deliciously fruity and sweet, which is something I have never quite encountered in a hot sauce before. There is a certain “je ne sais quoi” appeal to it and it hits certain taste buds perfectly.

I cannot WAIT to cook with these Maritime Madness sauces!

Be sure to follow and support Maritime Madness on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram. If you cook with Maritime Madness products, let me know! Comment or tag them so I can get even more (tried and tested) recipe ideas!

If you want to try cooking with it, but aren’t sure where to start, check out the recipes they have on their site. It’s a great way to start getting an idea of where each sauce can take not only you, but your dishes too! Stay on their site for awhile! I’ve been on it about 20-something times and I notice something new each time.

For example, they have the option to Build a Box. They also have Gift Cards, 2L “Fan” Sizes, BBQ and Grilling and several other resources. It’s basically the perfect place to shop for any BBQ Pro, or any foodie.

As for myself, it’s time to start cooking! Now, my only predicament is deciding which yummy sauce to use first. Stay tuned for BBQ Maritime Madness meets At Home with Joanna recipes!
