Recipe for Easy Parmesan Herb Chicken Burgers

Parmesan Herb Chicken Burgers Recipe

Posted on January 25, 2024January 25, 2024 by At Home With Joanna

We all know that there is nothing quite like a good burger. We also know that they’re not always the healthiest meal option out there. I wanted to satisfy my cravings for burgers with something slightly healthier, so I instantly knew that I wanted to try making a chicken-based burger. But, I didn’t want something like a McChicken; I wanted something a bit different. These Parmesan Herb Chicken Burgers were the solution!

This recipe from Taste of Home offers exactly what I was looking for; a lighter burger that is still full of flavour. As a massive fan of any cheese but especially parmesan, I had a feeling that these burgers were going to be delicious. Thankfully, my feelings were correct.

Parmesan Herb Chicken Burgers

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsps Olive Oil, divided
  • 1 Small Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 3/4 cup Marinara Sauce, divided
  • 1/2 cup Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese, finely chopped or shredded
  • 1/2 cup Dry Bread Crumbs
  • 4 slices Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1lb Ground Chicken
  • 4 Hamburger Buns, split and toasted, POM Pains Briochés are perfect for this
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 tsp Salt and Pepper
  • 1 tsp each Dried Oregano, Thyme, Parsley, Basil
  • Red Chili Flakes or Hot Sauce, optional
  • Fresh Basil Leaves, optional

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 Tbsp oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion, cook and stir until tender- about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for one minute longer. Remove from the heat and cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup marinara sauce with the chopped mozzarella cheese, bread crumbs, seasonings, hot sauce if using, and onion mixture. Lightly but thoroughly mix in the chicken. Using wet hands, shape the mixture into four patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. In the same skillet, heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Cook the burgers until a thermometer reads 165°, about 4-5 minutes on each side. Top them with sliced mozzarella cheese. Cover and cook for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted. At this time, toast the buns in the pan or in a toaster.
  4. Place the patties on buns and serve them topped with your favorite dressings. Adding tomatoes, avocado, and spinach added such a good flavor to mine but it’s up to you! My partner added hot peppers- it’s easily customizable. You can also simply top them with the remaining 1/2 cup of marinara sauce, Parmesan cheese and basil leaves.

Enjoy!
