Small Changes to Make Your Home More Economically Friendly

Posted on December 21, 2019October 22, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

If you believe that your home’s energy bills are way higher than they need to be, then it is super important that you change this. If you don’t then you may find that you end up spending way too much and this will impact your budget overall. Here are ways to make your home more economically friendly.

Swap your Standard Bulbs for LEDs

It can be tempting for you to go for the cheap bulbs but at the end of the day, they could be costing you a small fortune. One way for you to get around this would be for you to opt for the more expensive LED bulbs instead. Sure, they will cost you more, but you have to remember that at the same time, they will last you way longer so it’s worth the investment.

Clean your Refrigerator Coils

Another thing that you need to do is take the time to clean out your refrigerator coils. When you do, you will soon find that it is way easier for you to keep your food cool and that you use way less energy as a result. This job only takes a few minutes but it’s one that you can easily do in the comfort of your own home.

Go Vintage Where You Can

Repurposing items is one of the best ways for you to cut down on your expenses, and it’s way better for the environment as well. So the next time you need some more furniture, why not find items and repair them yourself? When you do, you will soon find that way fewer items end up going to the landfill. A worn-out coffee table can easily be painted and when you do, you will soon find that you get it looking as good as new again.

Window Treatments

Bare windows can look a bit naked and they also let a lot of cool air into the home, even if you have your windows shut.  One way for you to get around this would be for you to invest in some quality window treatments. Thicker blinds and curtains can go a long way, so do keep that in mind.

Save Water

If you want to help the environment and your home, then you need to invest in a rainwater tank. Clark Tanks have some very affordable ones if you don’t know where to look. Rainwater is ideal if you have plants that you need to water as it will stop you from having to use the hosepipe and you will also find that you have a continuous source for all those little jobs around the house too.

Wash on a Cold Cycle

Use cold water whenever you wash your clothes. You may think that cold water is not the way to go when you do your washing as you may feel as though it just doesn’t get your clothes as clean, but this is never usually the case. In fact, cold water really does just as well as warm water when you use the right washing detergent.
