Tom Hardy as the New Bond

Tom Hardy as the New Bond?

Tom Hardy as the New Bond?

There are reports stating that once Daniel Craig leaves his role in the 007 franchise, Tom Hardy may be the one to take his place as James Bond.  Craig is unsure what will happen once his contract is up and he has done the fourth film, but when asked about whether or not he will be returning he stated, “At this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit,” he said, before adding. “But we’ll see.”

While it is not official yet and there are still others to be considered (Idris Elba and Henry Cavill), I am actually one of the people supporting Tom Hardy.  I honestly, never enjoyed watching Daniel Craig as Bond.  I had to watch Casino Royale about twenty times before I got through it.  I’m only a fan of a few of his films, so I never thought he was a good fit for the role.  However, there were rumors that Orlando Bloom was also an option- sorry, but no thank you.

It was another Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan who had first mentioned that perhaps Elba would be a good contender when in an interview with Details Magazine he said,  ‘Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond’.  The author of James Bond, Anthony Horowitz stated that Elba was “too street” to play Bond- which, he has recently apologized for.  I definitely enjoy Idris Elba in whichever role he has, so it would be interesting to see how he would do as the next Bond.

Things have been heating up for Hardy’s career lately.  Especially since Mad Max was such a hit this past summer.  While I was not a huge fan of the film, I respect his acting skills and I think he would make a great fit.

However, there is another option.  The new/old possibility that Hugh Jackman may also want to take over.  Around 8 years ago, right when he was starting to do X-Men 2, he was offered the role but the timing wasn’t right.  Maybe it’s the right time for him now.

What do you think?  Are you rooting for Elba, Cavill, Jackman or the man of the hour Hardy?  Or, do you think they’re missing out on another prime candidate?

*Speaking of Prime Candidates, it seems we have another actor in the running.. Damian Lewis.  I say no, but what do you think?*

There’s no point in giving the role to an actor who is already established. The role of Bond is given to people who need to jump start their careers and make that next step. In my opinion, Tom Hardy in no way needs that role.

That is a good point- everyone in the running so far is already well established too though- so out of all of them, I am not horrified by the decision. If they had chosen Orlando Bloom, THEN I would be upset. That’s a good point, Tim; I hadn’t even thought about that.
