priority list when renovating home

Want To Renovate Your Home? Here’s A Priority List To Follow

Posted on December 13, 2022December 13, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

Renovating your home is an exciting time. Sure, you might have a bit of a mess to clean up afterward. There may also be a lot of preparations to make before you can even get started… but, you’ll be left with new space and a new look you can’t get anywhere else! While the thought of having a unique space is exciting, some renovations take precedence over others. Indeed, the more function you get out of a room, the higher up it should be on your priority list. If like many, you need help in making such a list, we’ve compiled a few helpful hints below about the best order in which to renovate your home.

Any Projects Involving Burstable Pipes Comes First

If there’s a pipe that could leak and/or burst, it takes priority above most things! Primarily, this would occur in the kitchen and bathroom. These two rooms are where a lot of essential day-to-day activities happen, and a bad pipe could truly throw a wrench in one’s plans.

If you want to renovate, focus on these two areas first, especially if the rooms are of questionable quality in the first place. Don’t wait for something bad to happen- be proactive and prevent the problem to start with.

Next, Address Any Air Leaks That Need Fixing

If there’s an air leak in your home, this project needs to be next on the list. A bit of air getting in or out isn’t life-threatening in the long run. Although, it can cause ventilation issues and plenty of money to be lost when you’re trying to use an HVAC system!

For example, if you’ve noticed some gaps in the garage door frame, you’ll want to call in a Garage Door Repair & Installation professional as soon as possible. Give a new lease of life to your garage and you’ll have a whole new room to work with. Think of all of the possible uses! The garage is not simply a “man cave” or storage room anymore. Use the space to your advantage!

Exterior Work Shouldn’t Be Left Until Last

The exterior of your home is what the world sees when they pass by. You obviously wouldn’t want strangers to think your house was a complete shambles. But, ignoring exterior issues can also cause structural damage over time.

When you have structural damage, such as cracks in the foundation, this can lead to subsidence. Similarly, vinyl siding coming away can lead to insulation issues. With one thing happening after another, you will have a very expensive few months ahead! To avoid this, make sure any projects like these are high on your priority list. Get them done quickly during times when contractor workloads are low and it will be resolved before you know it.

Once all projects like these are done and dusted, then the rest is up to you! In the meantime, focus on repair work for these areas, and remember, function equals priority!
