Why Vacation Aesthetics Are Shaping Swimwear Design in 2025

Posted on May 26, 2025October 3, 2025 by At Home With Joanna

New year, new swimsuit! With the start of every swim season, taking stock of your swimsuit collection is always a good idea. Fluctuations in your shape and size, fabric wear and tear, and changing tastes in fashion can all add up to a much-needed new swimwear haul. While some swim silhouettes and designs are evergreen, with each new year, certain swimwear trends rise to the top. This year, swim aesthetics are all about vacation chic and matching your wardrobe to your destination.

For 2025 swim trends, vacation aesthetics are at the forefront regarding silhouettes, prints, and accents. Resort wear always takes center stage in spring and summer collections for designers, with bathing suits and swim cover-ups as foundational pieces. Designers look to tropical destinations and coastal getaways for inspiration when it comes to creating their signature swim looks. Read on to see how you can infuse your swimwear wardrobe with vacation styles in mind for this swim season and beyond.

No matter your destination, swimsuits are essential items to pack for your vacation wardrobe. This year’s swim trends are informed by the history, culture, and aesthetic of locations famous for relaxing getaways. If you’re headed somewhere warm and sunny or simply want to enjoy a waterfront view, these styles will elevate any swim ensemble. Whether you prefer daring swimsuits or lean more toward modest swimwear, there’s a vacation-inspired style for you.

Tropical

Booked a Bahamas cruise? Heading out for a Polynesian escape? Tropical florals are always in style, but in 2025, tropical trends are getting even more adventurous. Swimwear designers are also looking beyond florals and typical beachy looks for this swim trend. Tropical-inspired prints from traditional textiles, pottery, and regional art also make their way into this beachy swim motif. Look for bathing suits in bright neon colors, jungle leaf prints, and exotic floral patterns.

Coastal

Rocky coastlines, romantic lighthouses, and nautical influences all come together to inspire coastal chic bathing suits. Look for bathing suits with rope detail in navy, white, or gold. Buckles, sleek single shoulder styles, and bright red hues all work well with the coastal swimwear trend. Look for sleek one-piece swimsuits with deep plunging necklines, sporty bikinis, and nautical stripes to nail the coastal swimwear style.

Mediterranean

From the Amalfi Coast to Monaco and beyond, Mediterranean vacations have always offered style inspiration. For 2025, look toward color schemes that match the blue waters of Sardinia. Or, neutral tones that reflect Grecian architecture like olive, white, beige, and gray. Look for strapless maillots and halter-neck suits to sport a classic Mediterranean seaside look.

Festival Boho

Some may think that swimwear is a surprising style choice for festivals. However, those headed to Bonnaroo, Coachella, or any other warm-weather outdoor music festival for their vacation know that more skin is in. Boho-inspired looks from festivals past, like Woodstock, have permeated into fashion culture and still influence modern-day swim styles. Look for Bohemian-inspired styles with fringe, lace, multiple straps, and beading to get that Boho babe style.

Resort

Resorts are another essential vacation destination, and whether you’re on deck at the pool or lounging in a hot tub, you’ll need the perfect swimsuit to make a splash. Resort wear swim styles are about being seen, so look for mesh panels, unique cutouts, and jewelry-like accents.

How to Choose The Right Swimwear

There are many factors to consider when choosing the right swimwear. While you may want to match your vacation destination to your swim styles, if those trends don’t match your tastes, you won’t make a splash. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a bathing suit for your vacation:

  • Activities: Will you be swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, or diving? Consider a sporty style bathing suit that provides enough coverage and support for all your activities.
  • Location: Will you be swimming in a chilly climate? Remember to pack cover-ups that match your swimsuit for when you get out of the water.
  • Silhouette: Cutouts and strapless styles may be in, but will you be comfortable wearing them?

If your vacation getaway will have both adventurous and lazy days, consider multiple swim pieces to match your activities.

Experiment with Your Personal Style

Vacations are the perfect time to experiment with a new style, especially when it comes to swimwear. If you normally shy away from bright colors and bold prints, give a tropical leaf print swimsuit a try on your next beach getaway. Want to try a more sophisticated style? Opt for coastal chic looks in solid, neutral tones for your next cruise or resort stay. Not so sure about trying something new? You can still show off your personality and style while playing with current beach trends and matching the vibe of your vacation. Try one small trend at a time, change up your normal patterns or colors, and see if a new bathing suit silhouette will work for you.

Matching your swimsuit to your vacation is an inspired idea, and one that fashion-forward swimmers can take to heart this year and beyond. Whether you’re enjoying a poolside staycation, lounging on a local beach, or have an exciting destination vacation planned, don’t forget to update your swimwear. Shopping for a new swimsuit can be daunting and uninspiring, but if you take some cues from your favorite vacation locales, you’ll discover that there’s a swimsuit out there for everyone. This year, don’t play it safe; experiment with vacation aesthetic swim styles and make every beach or poolside event unforgettable.
