The Best Ways To Inject Plant Power Into Your Patio

Posted on April 18, 2022April 18, 2022 by At Home With Joanna

Not only do patios provide a great low-maintenance option for your outdoor space; they are also primed for everything from al fresco dining to top-notch outdoor parties. A few well-placed garden chairs, or even a low-key patio setup, can make your backyard more relaxing.

Despite this potential, thinking outside of the box for solutions may be necessary to make the most out of your space. Obviously, additions like the garden furniture you use here are going to help. Considering that this is an outdoor area, it’s worth remembering that the addition of greenery can make a huge difference. Perhaps, even the difference between “the best patio on the street”, and the “we’d rather stay in our own backyard” sentiment.

After all, in the true style of all Pinterest patio inspiration, flourishing patio spaces look better integrated into gardens. They also provide fantastic outdoor passion projects and generally, they look amazing. The question is, how exactly do you begin with injecting plant power into your patio that is concrete-based?

# 1 – Discover the power of potting

It is possible to integrate things like raised flower beds into most patios. However, many homeowners find that potted patio plants offer more of an array of options. Best of all, pots themselves can become decorative items! Especially, when options like terracotta pots are paired perfectly with a decorative patio; one that makes use of, say, stamped concrete or other striking styles. Plus, when you play around with potted plants, you can try different whole-patio coverage options! These options can range from sizable tree shade to floor-level flowers. Having such an array of options will also allow you to keep the space surprisingly low maintenance. It’s completely up to you, and the time you are able to dedicate to the upkeep of this area!

# 2 – Choose the right plants

Ultimately, if you have a mind to make it work, any plant can become the right fit for your patio. That said, many gardeners believe that certain plants are better for patio life than others. Investing in those plants could help to ensure the best pop of color you could hope to see here. Some of these recommendations include striking yet low-maintenance options. Such as lantana, marigolds, and ferns. Both of which, are uniquely suited to life on even a shaded patio.

# 3 – Consider climbing options

Variety is the spice of plant life on your patio. In particular, climbing plants and vines placed on either wall decking around your patio. Or, even things like patio arches can ensure a significant wow factor. Even better? Colorful clematis, or the climbing hydrangea that we can’t get enough of.

By using these suggestions, your patio space will be feeling (and looking) like something fresh out of Wonderland. You’ll want to spend as much time as possible here, and isn’t that how you should feel on your patio?

Patios don’t need to be purely functional. You’ll see as much for yourself when you add a bit of plant power into your patio using these techniques.
